Rotary Summer Event: 31st July 2019
As a Rotary Peace Fellow, I am connected to a local Rotary club, who will host me, and provide me with a counsellor. My counsellor, Taki, is my contact with local Rotarian’s, as well as being my local support network in Tokyo. He is there to support me to settle in to life as a Peace Fellow, and also help me to interact and meet local Rotarian’s.
Last night marked the ‘start’ of my official integrations with Rotarian’s in Japan. Taki invited Dan and I as his guests to the summer event for his club. We met in a central Tokyo hotel, which sported stunning views across the city as we were on the 29th floor. We enjoyed a delicious meal and some fabulous entertainment in the form of Hawaiian dance. The event was themed around Hawaii, as next year, the international Rotary conference will be held in Hawaii.
I was introduced to many local Rotarian’s and given the chance to thank them for their hospitality. I am very much looking forward to getting to know the Rotarian’s even more over the next few years, and especially through a life-long friendship with Taki and his lovely family.
Next week, on the 9th August, I begin my official induction by Rotary into the Peace Fellowship. I will engage in language and culture classes, as well as meeting with the other 2019 fellow cohort. I am immensely excited for this next stage to begin!
